How Do You Feel About Your Name, Luke?
Luke says that one drawback to his name was the childhood nickname Puke. “Hilarious or what?”
Also, in his case, the timing was rather unfortunate. The 29-year-old from outside Cambridge, England, literally “came out the same time as Star Wars.”
But “it could have been worse,” he notes. His name is “short, easy to spell and I don’t know many other Lukes.”
The name Luke ultimately comes from the Greek name Loukas, which meant “from Lucania.” Lucania was an ancient region of southern Italy that was named for the Lucanians, the tribe that controlled the area.
Luke’s name is quite popular at the moment: For the past several years, it’s been in the top 20 in England and Wales and in the top 50 in the U.S. — the highest it’s ever ranked here.
Thank you, Luke!
