Phyllis Turner, a 94-year-old woman from Australia, has become the oldest postgraduate degree recipient in the world: she graduated from Australia’s Adelaide University earlier this week with a master’s degree.
The name Phyllis means “foliage” in Greek. It was one of the 100 most popular baby names in the United States from 1915 until 1958.
(The oldest person to receive a bachelor’s degree is Nola Ochs of Kansas.)

I wonder how this is tracked – with so many post-graduates throughout the world, there may just be a 95-year old out there.
I don’t think it’s officially tracked — or at least it wasn’t until now.
In the article I read, her degree supervisor (Prof. Maciej Henneberg) claimed she was the oldest postgraduate degree recipient in the world according to (his own?) “international investigations.”
I’m not sure what that means exactly, but articles that have been published since are saying that Guinness World Records agrees. :)
