Name of the Day – Occam

Earlier today, a friend of mine thought he overheard a man referring to his son as “Occam” — as in Occam’s Razor.

I’m assuming my friend heard the name correctly, so now I’m curious: was the boy named after the famous simplicity principle? (Occam’s Razor is attributed to William of Ockham. The place name means “oak homestead” in Old English.)

I’m also wondering if any other children have been named after adages, theorems, principles, and so forth. (Jackson? Sutton? Murphy? Hm.)

  1. I had a friend who played World of Warcraft and used the name Occam for his main character. I always think of him when I hear the name :)
