How do you feel about your name, Carrie?

“I love my name,” says 33-year-old Carrie of Trenton, New Jersey.

Carrie’s name is a pet form of Caroline, which can be traced back (via Charles) to a Germanic word meaning “man.”

Her name was one of the top 100 baby names in the U.S. for two stretches of time: 1880-1914 and 1968-1985. The year Carrie was born — the same year Stephen King’s novel Carrie debuted, ironically — her name ranked 42nd.

Her name may be common, but she has “a personal story behind it that makes it unique”:

When my mother was being driven to the hospital my father needed to get some gas. When they were sitting at the pump “Hey Carrie Anne” came on the radio. The gas station man said, “Hey that’s my daughter’s name…she’s playing right over there” and he pointed to a little girl playing next to the garage. I guess the name stuck for them because hours later I came into the world and was quickly named Carrie Ann.

Thanks, Carrie!
