Name in the News – Tuomi

A few weeks ago, I spotted the name Tuomi in a USA Today article about the preservation of old churches in North Dakota. Here’s an excerpt:

Historic preservation groups in at least 20 states award grants to churches, says Tuomi Forrest, associate director of Partners for Sacred Places, a non-profit group that provides training to about 100 churches and synagogues a year.

Tuomi is a somewhat common Finnish surname (e.g. Ilkka Tuomi, Kristiina Tuomi) but that was the first time I’d seen it used as a forename.
