We named out little guy Asher in May 07, we knew an Asher my hubby used to work with him and after discovring its out of the old testament in the bible(one of the 7 tribes of isreal).....we used it......now its really gained in popularity, which stinks cuz i like to have as unique of name as possible.

All you have to do is google a name or type it in on facebook and you'll see the most uncommon names really aren't so uncommon.

I've liked the name Asher ever since I read the book "The Giver" by Lois Lowry in junior high. It's the name of one of the main characters, along with Jonas (which I also LOVE and am very sad is becoming more popular as well!)

Although, I vaguely remember telling my mother I liked the name, and she said, "Yuck. Sounds like ashtray."

My name is Asher Lev. Great book.

I'm currently babysitting a little girl named Ashling. And there's an Aislyn ("Ash-lynn") at church the same age. I had a kid in my first grade class named Acheron (Ash-er-in). Asher could happen.
