Quote:
Herewith is a brief for all children whose parents give them unusual mirth-provoking or humiliating names. The offending fathers and mothers may be well meaning enough and in some cases the names have significance at the time they are given, but before long the child is hanging his head in shame under the storm of derision of his playmates, or blushing when he gives his name for the roll at school.

Phone Book Fishing on Lanai – Febelyn, Laikealoha, Na’alehua, Vilmar
The bad news is that my time in Hawaii is almost over.
The good news is that the phone book here on Maui (our last stop) actually covers three islands: Lanai, Maui and Molokai. So the phone book fishing has been quite good. :)
The section on Lanai is just 6 pages long, so let’s start with that one. Most of the names on Lanai are Spanish, but I saw some Hawaiian, English and Japanese names as well. Here are some names that stood out:
Celedonio
Chiyoshi
Cidronio
Clacida
Daisylee
Eulogio
Febelyn
Feliza
Flordelino
Jovito
Kahau
Kahokuao
Keo
Keola
Laikealoha
Lilinoe
Lowelyn
Marieza
Mileka
Na’alehua
Orlino
Reinario
Rizalino
Romelias
Sivanila
Vilmar
Willynn
I’ll read through the Molokai names later today. Maui I may not get to — there are over 200 pages in that section — but I’ll do my best.
