Baby Name Needed – Middle Name Suggestions

A reader named Rachel is having her first baby and needs a few middle name suggestions.

She and her husband have narrowed the first names down to Evie, Vivienne or Kiki for a girl and Milo or Max for a boy. The surname will start with an L, and end with a Y, and contain 2 syllables (with a stress on the first).

Rachel also mentions that, while she loves the name Kiki, the combination of Kiki and her surname

sounds like some kind of spicy food, “a portion of Kiki Lxxxxy please!”

Kiki is definitely an interesting pick. :) I have to admit, I don’t see it come up as a first name choice very often…especially next to a name like Vivienne.

Here are some ideas I came up with for middles:

Evie Vivienne Kiki Milo Max
Abigail
Beatrix
Caroline
Felice
Kate
Leah
Grace
Rose
Ava
Avery
Bree
Cleo
Harper
Liv
Lola
Tessa
Amelia
Anna
Elizabeth
Elodie
Fiona
Helene
Jane
Julienne
Benjamin
Emmett
Finn
Henry
Jude
Julian
Solomon
Sylvester
Alexander
Dominic
Everett
Isaac
Jasper
Leo
Oliver
Theo

Do you think any of the above work especially well?

What other middle names would you suggest to Rachel?

  1. No middle name suggestions at the moment. I like the use of family names in the middle. Rachel, is that an option for you? Vivienne Rachel is very pretty for a girl. Or perhaps your middle name as her middle name, or your mother’s or grandmother’s. And for a boy, maybe your husband’s first or middle name, or his father’s or grandfather’s. Kids love knowing that their names have special meaning as they grow.

Of your first name choices, Vivienne is the definite winner, in my opinion. I like it even more because it provides a better rhythm with a 2-syllable last name than Evie or Kiki would.

For the boys, I absolutely prefer the name Milo, but am not sure how well it flows into your surname if it starts with “L”. Does it sound like you are tripping over the letters when you say it outloud? No idea what your surname is, but say… Milo Lowry or Milo Levy; much as I like the name Milo, I don’t think that has the best flow. What about Miles or Myles? Do you like Maksim or Maxim (Russian forms of the name Maximus)? I think that Maksim is very cool.

Good luck deciding. I’d love to know what you end up choosing.

  2. I love Kiki. Is it from Kiki’s Delivery Service? But I don’t have your last name, so I don’t know how that would go (we made similar decisions with Esme, making it a middle name instaed of first because it was just too much short E and SS sounds with our last name, which rhymes with Kissinger).

Anyway, Vivienne Bree is lovely. May? I like the Ava/Avery V-play. How about Maeve?

With a short name like Max, I might be tempted by something long like Dominic. And Milo would work, IMO, with any name that doesn’t start with a vowel.

  3. I also like Vivienne Rachel – I think it has a very pretty ring to is – I also was thinking how about Evie Ana? I like that! I might have to keep it for my own. :) Also for the boys, I was thinking how about Milo Mason?

Just some ideas. :) Good luck Rachel! :)
