Baby Name Needed – Girl Name for Baby #7

A reader named Emily wrote to me late last month. She and her husband need a name for their seventh (!) baby, which will be a little girl. Their six older children are named Kyle, Conor, Nichol, Joelle, Danielle and Anthony.

The only names we’ve agreed on so far are Lucy and Aimee, and I don’t particularly like either, for me they’re too normal and safe. I’d prefer something with a bit of edge, not much, I don’t want to call my child Apple or Fifi Trixibelle, but just something that isn’t dull and isn’t so well-used.

Emily also likes “slightly older names” including Esme, Isabelle, Amelie and Grace, “but [her] hubby has said no to all of these.” She almost had her husband on board with Lexi, but then she changed her mind about the name because “it’s so popular at the moment.”

Here are some of the ideas I came up with. (It’s kind of a hodgepodge, but I mostly aimed for older-sounding names.)

Ainsley
Audra
Aurora
Bethany
Brielle
Calla

  1. HI, thank you so much for these suggestions, they’ve come in very usefull, we had sort of decided on Roxie or Robyn but now we’ve both gone of them and we’ve only got two weeks till my due date. We also have been considering Cameron but cant decided wether its just too masculine for a girl. Elodie is still a firm favorite of mine as is Bethany. I’ll let you know in a couple of weeks (hopefully!) what we’ve deciced on! Thanks again.

  2. Hi, well our baby girl was born one week late on Friday the 13th of march, lovely delivery, very quick not a single stitch and I was home by 6 am, the older children went to bed and woke up in the morning with a new sister! She was quite a dainty weight – 7lb 10. We decided last minute to name her Lauren, it suits her perfectly. funny thing is, if someone had suggested it during my pregnancy i’d have put it into the safe/boring catergory with Lucy and Aimee, funny isnt it how something just “fits” once you see your new arrival. I think its fits nicely with our other girls names (slightly french sounding we’ve been told!) and its fits in with my liking older names and it fits in with her dads liking for classic names. Thank you so much for your suggestions.
