Babies Get Gang Names in New Zealand

Some members of Mongrel Mob, a New Zealand gang, have been giving their children gang-related names.

One man named his child Triple M Rogue, which stands for Mighty Mongrel Mob, rogue chapter.

Another man, whose surname is Ford, changed his own name from James to M M M (also short for Mighty Mongrel Mob). He named his children Customline, Fairlane and Mainline, after the Ford Customline, Ford Fairlane and Ford Mainline. The Mob has long been associated with Ford V8 vehicles.

A gang intelligence officer said incorporating Mongrel Mob into a name could be seen as a way of proving loyalty for life, as could having a patch tattooed onto a face, arms or chest.
