Which Baby Name Wins the Boy-Girl-Dog-Cat Grand Slam?

I noticed the other day that the name Charlie is being given to more and more baby girls every year. This reminded me that Charlie is already popular for pets. So…if Charlie is big for dogs and cats and baby boys, and it becomes popular for baby girls, does it win some sort of 4-way intergender, interspecies title?

Of course, it would have to beat Bailey and Sam–very strong contenders. And you never know about Max. Or even Jasper.

So let’s try a vote. Which name sounds to you like it’s equally likely to refer to a baby boy, a baby girl, a dog or a cat?

The Boy-Girl-Dog-Cat Grand Slam title should go to:

  • Bailey (41%, 21 Votes)
  • Sam (37%, 19 Votes)
  • Charlie (16%, 8 Votes)
  • Jasper (4%, 2 Votes)
  • A different name (I'll comment with my answer) (2%, 1 Votes)
  • Max (0%, 0 Votes)

Total Voters: 51

I’ll leave the poll open for about a month, then tally the votes (write-ins included) before declaring a winner on July 4th.

  1. It doesn’t quite win the boy/girl/dog /cat grand slam, but boy do I know a lot of cats and dogs named Sophie.

  2. Oh yeah, if this were the Girl-Dog-Cat Triple Crown, there would be a lot more competition–the names above, plus Sophie, Lily, Bella, Daisy, Lucy, Molly, maybe Maggie and Millie…

  3. I voted for Bailey, but another one that I’ve heard a lot on pets as well as children of both genders is Riley.

  4. I voted for Sam although Alex is a strong candidate in my opinion. And girl names for dogs? You wouldn’t believe how many people comment that their grandmothers have dogs named Bridget(t). It seems to be a Golden Retriever favorite…

    Our old dog was Dara.

  5. After spending the day at the dog park, I have to agree there are A LOT of dogs named Riley. Today there were at least three…

  6. Looks like the winner is Bailey!

Second place goes to Sam, which lost by only 2 votes.

And, based on the comments, it looks like Riley could have been a contender as well. If I do this again next year, I’ll be sure to include it. :)
