81 Baby Girls Named After ThunderCat Cheetara

Ok, this one might just top MacGyver.

The cartoon ThunderCats originally aired from 1985 through 1990. The main characters resembled human-feline hybrids and had names like Lion-O, Tygra and Panthro. But only Cheetara, the name of the main female ThunderCat, ever made it onto the Social Security Administration’s official list of baby names:

• 1985 – 7 baby girls named Cheetara
• 1986 – 36 baby girls named Cheetara
• 1987 – 29 baby girls named Cheetara
• 1988 – 9 baby girls named Cheetara

So at least 81 baby girls in the U.S. were named after super-fast, bo staff-wielding cartoon cat-lady Cheetara. To celebrate this momentous fact, let’s all go check out the ThunderCats opening title sequence (vid). Enjoy!
