Baby name story: Yasi

The biggest storm in Queensland’s history, Cyclone Yasi, formed north of Fiji on January 30th and made landfall in Australia several days later.

Around the time the storm hit, Terri-lee Levi and Michael Blackley of Bundaberg welcomed a baby girl.

What did they name her? Dakota Yasi.

Ms Levi said the name was something different and would be a reminder to little Dakota of the day she was born.

“Yasi” is the Fijian word for sandalwood. It has since been retired as a South Pacific tropical cyclone name.
