The Baby Name Aquinnah

Actor Michael J. Fox and his wife, actress Tracy Pollan, have four children. Two of those children are twin daughters Aquinnah and Schuyler, born in February of 1995.

Aquinnah was named for the town of Aquinnah (a.k.a. Gay Head) on Martha’s Vineyard, where Pollan’s parents have a summer home. The town name, pronounced ah-KWIN-ah, is a Wampanoag word meaning “land under the hill.”

Not surprisingly, we see Aquinnah pop up on the SSA’s baby name list for the very first time in 1995:

  • 1996: unlisted
  • 1995: 5 baby girls name Aquinnah [debut]
  • 1994: unlisted

It made the SSA’s list during most of the 2000s as well.
