I introduced the baby name popularity graphs and a baby name directory (alphabetical) a few weeks ago.
I’ve since added another name directory. This one organizes names by length — from 2 letters long all the way up to 15 letters long. (These are the SSA’s minimum & maximum lengths.)
Some of the shortest names are Om, Io, Di and Ze.
Some of the longest are Christopherryan, Laurenelizabeth, Christiandaniel and Mariadelrosario.

- Girl names: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 or 15 letters long
- Boy names: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 or 15 letters long
And, just for fun, the graph below shows the length breakdown of all of the nearly 90,000 names that have ever appeared on an SSA list (1880-2011).
The 6-letter names are winning, but the 7-letter names are not far behind.

There seems to be a cut-off at 15 letters in the source data … some of the 15 letter names are obviously truncated.
Yes, you’re right. The SSA explicitly mentions the 2-letter minimum, but never the 15-letter max — though it’s not hard to figure out once you start spotting names like “Christopherdavi” and “Michaelchristop” on the lists.
I’m surprised that the number of 4 letter names is so low. And, who would have expected a Bell curve out of baby name length?
