Baby Name Battle – Erika, Erinn, Ensa, Evin

bill cosbyBetween 1965 and 1976, Bill Cosby and his wife Camille had 5 children:

  1. Erika (daughter)
  2. Erinn (daughter)
  3. Ennis (son)
  4. Ensa (daughter)
  5. Evin (daughter)

Asked why he begins every child’s name with the letter “E”, Cosby replies that it stands for “excellence in performance.”

Which of Cosby’s daughters’ names do you like best?

  1. Ensa, because it’s different and it’s the only one other than Erika that doesn’t look slightly off.

  2. Considering how many beautiful names begin with “e” (like; Elizabeth, Emily, Emma, Evangeline, Elspeth, Eloise, Esther, Edwina etc.), I’m rather perplexed why they are all so similar. Was it to economise by only ordering 1 set of woven name tags? And why are they all “odd”; traditionally Ensa is spelled with a “z”, Evin with an “a”, and is masculine, while I’ve only come across feminine Ennis. I think Erica looks better/ neater/ more harmonious than Erika – but then I’m not a big fan of “k”. But Erinn certainly has more substance than the visually weaker “Erin”.
I wonder if each of these women like their names? Or do they feel like their identities are compromised?
