Baby name story: Bruce Robert

Robert the Bruce

On June 24, 1314, the Scottish army (led by Robert the Bruce) fought the English army (led by Edward II) in the Battle of Bannockburn.

Despite being outnumbered, the Scottish army defeated the English army. Their victory “played a large part in helping secure Scotland’s independence from English aggression.”

Last week on June 24 — the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn — a baby boy was born to David and Yvonne Martin of Scotland.

The baby was born at precisely 13:14 pm, so the couple decided to give him the patriotic name Bruce Robert Martin.

“I am not suggesting he is the reincarnation of Robert the Bruce,” David said, “but the time of his birth was just incredible.”
