Jamaica May Prohibit Bad Baby Names

Inappropriate baby names like Placenta and Syphilis may soon be prohibited in Jamaica.

Jamaica’s Registrar General’s Department (RGD) “says while it does not want to infringe on anybody’s right to name children, it is strongly recommending that restrictions be placed on certain names parents give to their babies.”

The RGD also reported that the parents of a child recently named Syphilis have since changed the name via deed poll.
