On September 15, 1972 — the eve of Mexico’s Independence Day — 27-year-old Mexican boxer Erubey “El Chango” Carmona (born Eudibiel Guillen Chapin) fought Mexican-American boxer Armando “Mando” Ramos in Los Angeles for the WBC Lightweight Championship.

It was “one of the most sensational fights in LA and Greater Mexican history,” and Carmona won via TKO in the 8th round.
