Two days after doctoral student Emily Brewer handed in her dissertation, she stumbled upon a pregnant woman who was about to give birth at a UNC-Chapel Hill campus bus stop.
She helped deliver the stranger’s baby girl and, minutes later, paramedics arrived to take mother and baby to the hospital.
That night, Emily visited the hospital to check in on the woman, Aguilar Lopez, and her newborn.
And when Lopez asked Brewer for her name, the new mother noted it down. Brewer later learned that the new baby had been named Emily, because Lopez thought she was ‘an angel’.
