“At least it’s different,” concedes Bobbi, a 21-year-old originally from Montana but now living in the Midwest.
Bobbi’s name ranked among the 1,000 most popular names in the nation from the 1940s through the 1990s, peaking during the ’70s. The year she was born, it ranked 544th (she was one of 369 baby Bobbies that year).
What does Bobbi like about her name?
It’s not a common name. I’ve only met three other women with my name and one of them was short for Roberta. I like the uniqueness of it.
What does she not like about her name?
It’s a boys name no matter how you spell it. People always mistakenly spell it Bobbie or Bobby. I hate being called Bob. My maiden name was similar to Buchet (I think that’s how it’s spelled) so when The Waterboy came out kids in school called me Bobby Buchet.
