Mouseketeer Cubby
Mouseketeer Cubby
Cubby O’Brien was the second-most-popular Mouseketeer on the original run of the Mickey Mouse Club, after Annette Funicello.

He was one the few Mouseketeers featured in all three seasons (1955-1958) of original programming.

His real name wasn’t Cubby — it was Carl. “Cubby got his nickname from his mother, who thought he looked like a bear cub as an infant.”

But the public knew him as Cubby, so Cubby is what popped up on the SSA’s baby name list:

  • 1959: 5 baby boys named Cubby
  • 1958: 8 baby boys named Cubby
  • 1957: 10 baby boys named Cubby
  • 1956: 6 baby boys named Cubby [debut]
  • 1955: unlisted

The baby name Cubby made the list one more time, in 1963, but hasn’t been back since.
