In the girls’ top 10, Elsa was knocked off by Vera, which jumped all the way from 19th in 2018 to 5th in 2019.
In the boys’ top 10, Alexander was knocked off by Matteo, which experienced an even bigger jump: 27th to 10th.
So far I’m not sure what gave Vera and Matteo such big boosts, but no doubt it was pop culture — probably a Swedish TV show. That said, Swedish car manufacturer Volvo did introduce an autonomous, electric vehicle called Vera in 2018.
The names in Sweden’s top 100 that rose the fastest from 2018 to 2019 were Hedda and Frans. The names that dropped the fastest were Felicia (bye, Felicia!) and Viktor.
In 2018, the top two names in Sweden were Alice and William.
If you’re on the hunt for baby names with a numerological value of 1, you’re in luck! Because today’s post features hundreds of 1-names.
Before we get to the names, though — how do we know that they’re “ones” in numerology?
Turning names into numbers
Here’s how to calculate the numerological value of a name.
First, for each letter, come up with a number to represent that letter’s position in the alphabet. (Letter A would be number 1, letter B would be number 2, and so forth.) Then, add all the numbers together. If the sum has two or more digits, add the digits together recursively until the result is a single digit. That single digit is the name’s numerological value.
For instance, the letters in the name Taylor correspond to the numbers 20, 1, 25, 12, 15, and 18. The sum of these numbers is 91. The digits of 91 added together equal 10, and the digits of 10 added together equal 1 — the numerological value of Taylor.
Baby names with a value of 1
Below you’ll find the most popular 1-names per gender, according to the latest U.S. baby name data. I’ve further sub-categorized them by total sums — just in case any of those larger numbers are significant to anyone.
1 via 10
The letters in the following baby names add up to 10, which reduces to one (1+0=1).
Girl names (1 via 10)
Boy name (1 via 10)
Eda, Dea, Ebba, Adda, Ade
Ade
1 via 19
The letters in the following baby names add up to 19, which reduces to one (1+9=10; 1+0=1).
Girl names (1 via 19)
Boy names (1 via 19)
Mae, Ema, Abbie, Alea, Aela
Adam, Jace, Dan, Jed, Jah
1 via 28
The letters in the following baby names add up to 28, which reduces to one (2+8=10; 1+0=1).
There’s no definitive answer, unfortunately, because various numerological systems exist, and each one has its own interpretation of the number one. That said, if we look at a couple of modern numerology/astrology websites, we see 1 being described as “leader,” “independent,” “determined,” “creative,” and “self-assured.”
We can also look at associations, which are a bit more concrete. Here are a few things that are associated with the number 1:
Unity
Uniqueness
First place (as in sports)
Unicorn
Monolith
I kept the list short because you can associate the number 1 with just about anything. It’s universal, you might say. (See what I did there?)
What does the number 1 mean to you? What are your strongest associations with the number?

In the girls’ top 10, Maja, Alma and Elsa replaced Saga (now 11th), Freja (12th), and Alicia (13th). One source mentioned that Saga’s decline corresponds with the conclusion of the popular Swedish TV show The Bridge (2011-2018), which featured a main character named Saga.
The boys’ top 10 includes the same 10 names, but in a different order.
The names in the top 100 that rose the fastest from 2017 to 2018 were Hailey and Lias (a short form of Elias). The names that dropped the fastest were Cornelia and Oscar. I also noticed that the ninth-fastest dropping girl name was Siri.
In 2017, the top two names in Sweden were the same.
The Swedish royal family caused some controversy back in 2012 when Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel named their baby girl Estelle.
One Swedish journalist said the name was “a very strange choice which I believe will be much discussed.” He added: “Estelle sounds like the name of a nightclub queen.”
Many speculated that the princess was named after American-born Countess Estelle Bernadotte (1904-1984) in order to make a political statement. Estelle’s husband Folke Bernadotte (son of Ebba Munck) was assassinated in Jerusalem in 1948, and one of the people behind the murder was future Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir.
Regardless of the reason it was chosen, the Princess’s name is now more popular than ever before in Sweden. Usage dipped right after she was born, but rebounded a few years later:
2017: 75 baby girls named Estelle in Sweden
2016: 70 baby girls named Estelle in Sweden
2015: 43 baby girls named Estelle in Sweden
2014: 45 baby girls named Estelle in Sweden
2013: 33 baby girls named Estelle in Sweden
2012: 55 baby girls named Estelle in Sweden
2011: 64 baby girls named Estelle in Sweden
2010: 53 baby girls named Estelle in Sweden
2009: 38 baby girls named Estelle in Sweden
2008: 41 baby girls named Estelle in Sweden
It didn’t come close to hitting the top 10 in 2017, but did rank somewhere around 145th.
According to one source, “[t]he name Estelle fits into a smallish trend in Sweden, where names of French origin — or just French-sounding — are slowly becoming popular. Some other names in this group are: Amélie, Celine, Leonie and Noelle.”
