Baby born in courtroom, named Ginaya (“felony”)

On July 5, 2000, Amal Ahmed Farran gave birth to a baby girl in an Egyptian courtroom just minutes after being sentenced to three years in prison for drug trafficking.

Taking “the advice of fellow women defendants in the courtroom,” Farran named her daughter Ginaya — the Arabic word for felony (jinaya).
