Loxi ran a marine salvage operation in the Florida Keys. Her two love interests were Capt. Jack Stuart (played by John Wayne) and Stephen Tolliver, a lawyer from Charleston.

The movie was based on a story by American novelist Thelma Strabel that had been serialized in the Saturday Evening Post in 1940, from April to June.
