Kosovar refugees name baby boy Bleron

In October of 1999, Jahja and Mevlude Fusha welcomed a baby boy — the first baby born to Kosovar refugees living in New Zealand.

They named the baby Bleron, meaning “beginning of new life,” to symbolise their new start in the South Pacific.

The Fusha family — which included older daughter Liberta — had been living in Auckland for four months at that point.

(Earlier the same year, Kosovar refugees in the U.S. named a baby Amerikan.)
