Havana-based Yoani Sánchez has become a sort of unofficial spokesperson for Cuba’s young people via her blog Generación Y.
Where does the name of her blog come from?
It refers to the generation born in Cuba during the 1970s and 1980s, when Russian and Russian-influenced names — many being Y-names — were fashionable.
Yoani mentions Yanisleidi, Yoandri, Yusimí and Yuniesky as examples of other Generación Y names.
