You know, Harry, Atticus, Henry, Theodore–they were all uncool until the hipster generation decided to start naming their kids. I like Stanley because of Flat Stanley. And Stan Lee, indeed.

I think Stanley is a lovely name. I was going to be called it if I was a boy and my best friend is called it. And Stan, for short, is a good nickname but still sounds like a good, strong name too from baby to old man :)

I think Maksim George sounds great. (And I also like the nickname Maks/Max.)

The only drawback I can see to putting Maksim first is that the s-sound of the nickname will blend with the s of the surname. That could be a irritating, but I don’t think it’s a deal breaker.

@Eriin – That’s a good point. Few people will ever catch on unless they’re told. But the three people I mentioned–Ashley, Ashley and Amanda’s mom–were all pretty embarrassed about the TV character connections nonetheless.

@C in DC – I could definitely see that happening. Especially if it’s a rather distinctive name (like Phoebe). Good thinking.

At first, I thought a few of the Tommy-Lees might have been inspired by the reality TV show Tommy Lee Goes to College, but the dates don’t quite match up — the show aired in 2005, and these names are from 2008.

I know that suggestions weren’t asked for, but in line with Nancy’s ideas, I’d like to suggest Tristan, Dunstan (for the -stan parts), as well as Connor, Conrad, and Deacon (for the ‘con’ parts), and Augustine and Valentine (for the -tine parts).

Stanley is a solid, masculine name (heck, it rhymes with “manly”). If you want to use it, use it.

So I mentioned the names and these were DH’s comments:
Irene: He said it’s too close to Renee which he really doesn’t like (I don’t think Irene sounds like Renee, but DH said that it’s spelled close enough) . So scratch this one.
Joanna/Johanna: If we’ll use Louise instead of Louisa, we could definitely use Joanna as the first name.
Pauline: It’s a sad no.
Sylvia: This is another name to which he said that if we used Louise instead of Louisa we can use this.
Rosalie: He said the nickname Sally would be cute (instead of a nickname like Rose or Rosa). No other comment, though.
