I received this e-mail from a reader named Melissa two days ago*:
My 3 year old is Elise, and I need a girl’s name to go with it. I’m due in less than 2 weeks and we are STUCK! Please help!
Here are some names that might sound good with Elise:
Adele Amelia Angie Anna Annette Audrey Bianca Camille Carolyn | Celia Clara Flora Helen Josie Lillian Marie Molly Natalie | Nelle Nina Noelle Petra Simone Sonya Sylvie Willa Yvette |
Some of the names that go with Lydia could also work.
Can you think of other names that go with Elise? (I’m sure Melissa would appreciate any and all suggestions, no matter how random.)
*This question was short and time-sensitive, so I posted it ahead of several others. I apologize to those I skipped over; I will get to your questions soon.
Update – The baby is here! Scroll down to the final comment (dated October 20th) to see what her name is.
We had been expecting twins, and if they were girls, Elise was high on our list for one of them. Other names that we considered to go with it (some my taste, some my husband’s) included Caroline &/or Cara, Emily, Anna, Megan & Amy. I liked the name Leah a lot too, but not paired with Elise, perhaps because of the “lee” sound in both of them.
Other names to consider are Mary or Susanna(h). Many names on the list that go with Lydia, and on today’s list would work too. Among them, the first that come to mind are:
Charlotte, Audrey & Amelia (a good alternative to the more popular Emily if this is your taste),
Good luck deciding! Congrats to big sister Elise.
thank you for the suggestions! if any other readers have ideas too, please add!!
Melissa, please let us know what you choose! Enjoy the remainder of your pregnancy.

My cousin’s daughters are Elise and Clara. I’ve always thought that they go together quite well. When my daughters were younger they called them “ClaranElise”, one word.
My name is Kendra Elise…..which I dropped Elise when I got married. I am expecting in December and would love use Elise as a middle name for my soon-to-arrive daughter. Just wondering what your suggestions are of names that work with Elise!
We have a winner! I just heard from Melissa — here’s what she says:
