Kelly recently clued me in to something extremely cool: the SSA has released lists of all the baby names that were given to 5+ babies in the U.S. every year since 1880. You can download the lists directly from the SSA.
I was going to publish all of the 2009 names here in a single post, but WordPress couldn’t handle it. So instead I’ll start where the top 1,000 left off and give you all the names that were given to 100+ babies last year.
Let’s start with boy names. The 1,000th most popular boy name last year was Mustafa, given to 194 babies. After Mustafa comes…

Girl names coming soon!
Update: Here are the girl names.

My own name is on that list (Kelly for a boy) with 139 occurrences; that’s actually up from 2008 (113). In fact, the girl/boy ratio with this name last year is the closest it’s been since the 1970s (of course the decline in Kelly’s popularity for girls has a lot to do with that). Maybe there is some hope for this name veering back over to the boys (also considering how parents are slowly but surely becoming more comfortable with using these kinds of names for boys).
Holly Marie Combs may have fueled some of that rise; last year she named her third son Kelley James (albeit with a different spelling). The article at the link below mentions how Kerri Walsh was considering naming her recently born son Kelly, but went for Sundance instead:

Thank you for the insight on Kelly!
Just noticed Rogan at 108. That has to be the influence of Fear Factor host/UFC commentator Joe Rogan.
