Ukraine’s Minister of Justice recently announced the most popular baby names in Ukraine for the first half of 2010 were Anastasia and Maksym.
I can’t give you proper rankings (because they weren’t included in the news release, oddly) but here are the other baby names that were mentioned:

Love Oleksandra. I’m not an Alexandra/Alexis/other Alex nicknamed girl names fan, but this one I do like. I always wondered how Oleg came about…I guess it’s originally a nickname for Olegsandr/Oleksandr that split off. And Olga probably is related to that too….I always wanted to use Olga and was shot down the moment I found out I was pregnant!! I wonder if I would have managed better with Oleksandra.
I find it interesting that the girls names follow a lot of the same trends as in the U.S. (and mostly have common English equivalents) while the boys names don’t as much.
I’m always surprised that Paula/Paulette/Pauline/Paulina aren’t more popular in the U.S. when their variants are used extensively around the world.
