In 2010, the most popular first letters for boy names were J, A and C. Here’s the breakdown:

  1. J – 15.765% (of the baby boys born in 2010 were given a J-name)
  2. A – 10.476%
  3. C – 8.868%
  4. M – 6.521%
  5. D – 6.495%
  6. B – 5.713%
  7. E – 5.400%
  8. L – 5.338%
  9. K – 4.420%
  10. R – 4.205%
  11. T – 3.952%
  12. S – 3.709%
  13. N – 3.294%
  14. G – 3.261%
  15. I – 1.986%
  16. H – 1.916%
  17. W – 1.907%
  18. P – 1.566%
  19. O – 1.257%
  20. Z – 1.236%
  21. F – 0.853%
  22. V – 0.613%
  23. X – 0.462%
  24. Y – 0.402%
  25. Q – 0.230%
  26. U – 0.155%

The 2010 numbers indicate that, since 2009, there’s been a decrease in the popularity of K- and T-names and an increase in the popularity of C- and M-names.

Note: This analysis doesn’t account for all of the baby boys born in 2010, but it does account for most of them (nearly 1.9 million).
