Lainey, one of the fastest-rising girl names of 2023, is still on the rise thanks to country singer Lainey Wilson.
Scottie may have been influenced by Scotty Lyon, a young female character on the show Fargo.
And Baela was probably influenced by Baela Targaryen of the show House of the Dragon.
If you can explain any of the other rises, please leave a comment!

Solène is the name of Anne Hathaway’s character in the film The Idea of You.
It’s killing me that I haven’t figured out Ailany yet.
– Lilieth Martínez is a YouTuber (775K subs)
– Mavie is the daughter of soccer star Neymar
– Scottie is the daughter of influencer Allison Kuch
– Kahani is the daughter of influencer Shraddha Singh (“Shrads”) and means “story” in Hindi
Baela – A character in House of the Dragon
Renli – A version of Wrenley, which is very popular in multiple spellings
Sanova – Apparently some AI chat character
Violet – Protagonist of the Empyryon series
Eloise – Sofia Richie’s baby
Elodie – Protagonist of the movie Damsel, played by Millie Bobbie Brown
Evara looks like a crosscultural name. It might be popular among Indian Americans.
Mahelet is Ethiopian. It’s a variant of Mahlet, a type of church chant. Is there a character or Ethiopian actress with the name?
Renli just looks to be a respelling of the popular Wrenlee/Wrenlie
Zaeli is a respelling of Zaylee
There’s a girl on the show Baddies named Scotty, which could influence Scottie sounding like a girl name (I’ve seen a couple comments on random social media pages of people naming their daughters Scottie cause they heard it from her).
Renli is just an alternate spelling of the trendy name Wrenley.
I’m curious as to what’s fueling the Alana / Alanna rise right now!
Ailany is also on BabyCenter’s most popular names list for Nicaragua. Hundreds of thousands of Nicaraguans have migrated from that country over the past few years and a large number of them ended up in the United States. This is a name that is likely particularly popular with Nicaraguans and others from Central American countries. The -lani and -lany ending is particularly trendy right now. The -y ending is also seen in other names popular with Spanish speakers like Emely or Melany.
A number of other names popular with Hispanics also increased in use significantly in 2025: Sofia, Camila, Eliana, Valentina, Catalina, Genesis, Alina, Alana, Cataleya, Julieta, Estella, Estrella, Solana, Kataleya, etc.
