  29. Alyzzah, 14
  30. Asiri, 14
  31. Islani, 14
  32. Symori, 14

Yashna could have been influenced by the main female character in the Indian movie Hi Nanna, released in late 2023. (The name of the character’s romantic interest, Viraj, also saw an increase in usage last year.)

10 baby girlsAjorie, Davileth, Ellavie, Esslyn, Kaeor, Kritara, Ozora, Ralani, Rennala, Rouh, Truce, Vidhitsa, Zeliana, Zenova

Sylphiette seems to originate with the Japanese light novel series Mushoku Tensei (which was adapted into an anime series recently), and Truce was one of the fastest-rising boy names last year.

Finally, here’s a selection of the rest of the debuts:

  • 9 baby girls: Eliel, Gelani, Iclynn, Laguna, Nadxheli, Raiha, Tahyssia, Wynrie

Shacarri was no doubt inspired by sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson. She’s been making headlines for several years now, but in 2024 specifically she won a pair of medals (gold and silver) at the Paris Olympics.

(And, more generally: Laguna means “lagoon” in Spanish, Tallinn is the capital of Estonia, Mactzil means “miracle” in Mayan, and Pneuma means “breath” in Ancient Greek.)

If you can explain any of the other debuts, please leave a comment!

  1. – Yeshna and Yashnareddy are Indian and possibly variants of Yashna
    – Mikaely seems to be used in Brazil, and there is an influencer from there named that
    – Khailany is probably a variant of Kailani/Kehlani
    – Zyalani and Islani are probably also inspired by names like Kehlani and Leilani
    – Alyzzah is probably a variant of Alissa, and there is a Tiktoker by this name
    – Asiri and Inti are Quechua
    – Denayt seems to be Amharic
    – Vihanvi, Vidhitsa and Shreeva are Indian
    – Zuheilyn Clemente was Miss Honduras in 2023
    – Umay is Turkish

  2. – Dalzary is the fourth daughter of Larry Hernandez. His older daughters, Daleyza, Dalary, and Dalett, all had impressive debuts in the baby name data as well.
    – I think Kohani is another spelling of Kahani, which surged in the data this year. Kahani is the daughter of influencer Shraddha Singh “Shrads.” The name means “story” in Hindi.
    – Heyssel appears to be a phonetic Spanish spelling of Hazel. Miss Nicaragua 2024 is named Geyssell García, but Geyssell didn’t turn up in the data this year.
    – Sidak is a Punjabi Sikh name meaning “faith.”
    – Hallyn is half of a Tiktok couple (The Bellairs) with 1.6M followers.
    – Denayt is an Eritrean name that appeared in a popular Spanish language Tiktok https://www.tiktok.com/@fancylozano/video/7278253958517263649) that received over 3M likes. The creator says that the name means “person who judges well.”
    – Inti is the Mayan sun god, and is more commonly used for boys.
    – Rennala, the “queen of the full moon,” is a character in the video game Elden Ring.
    – V names appear to be trending among Indian-Americans — from the débuts, Vihanvi and Vidhitsa match the style of the boys’ names rising the fastest: Vaayu, Vyom, Vardaan, and Vedaant.
    – Zeliana is another spelling of Zelyiana, a top debut from last year, which belongs to the baby daughter of YouTube vloggers The Trench Family (11M subs). They had a daughter named Zhalani last month, so watch out for that one in the 2025 data.
    – Laguna caught my eye in a TikTok by @rickyxbee (241K followers, has some videos with millions of views).
    – Vexahlia is a character in the animated show The Legend of Vox Machina.
    – Winshaida is the daughter of Haitian Creole influencer @dadwinshaida (410K followers0
    – Koriand’r is a character in the DC Comics universe.
    – Kolibri is another spelling of Colibrí, which is the word for “hummingbird” in Spanish.
    – Olalla is pronounced o-LYE-ah and is a Catalan form of Eulalia.

  3. Calissi looks to be a respelling of Khaleesi
Chylo looks to be a respelling of Kylo, the Star Wars villain name used more for boys
Ellavie is a music and feminine embodiment project that can be found on platforms like Instagram and SoundCloud, per AI, and Elle Vie is a brand of shea butter
Harmyni is a respelling of Harmony
Iclynn is a respelling of Icelynn, which originated as a phonetic version of the Irish Aislinn or of Ice plus Lynn.
Keava might be an Anglicization of the Irish Caoimhe
Mauve is a color name that might be inspired by the popular Maeve
Nephele, per AI, refers to a cloud nymph in Greek myth. Additionally, Nephele is a scientific name for a web-based platform for microbiome data analysis, as well as a name used in various creative works, including carpets and music
Reazyn looks to be a word name, a respelling of the word Reason
Takdeer is a song in Punjabi by Harnav Brar. It seems to be a variant of Taqdeer and refer to predestination in Islam
Ysabeau is an Old French spelling of Isabeau. Ysabeau has been used for characters in different fantasy works.
Tullie is apparently a French version of the Latin name Tullia, though I wonder if it could be an Anglicized spelling of the Finnish Tuuli. Supermodel Elsa Hosk has a daughter named Tuulikki Joan and nicknamed Tuuli. Tuuli also shows up in the rankings with six uses, as it has since Hosk’s daughter was born
Wrenlei is another respelling of Wrenley
Xielo could be a respelling of Cielo

  4. Tuuli Thea is apparently also a title used for the leader of the avian shapeshifters in the Kiesha’ra book series by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes. Maybe it’s a combination of influences. Tuuli rhymes with Julie and Hosk’s very cute preschooler has appeared with her in a modeling campaign, where her name is given as Tuuli.

  5. Tullie (spelled Tully, short for Tallulah) is the main character in Netflix’ hit series Firefly Lane.

Zoet (pronounced “zoot”) is the Dutch word for sweet. It absolutely isn’t used as a first name in the Netherlands now, it’s strictly used as “die thee is erg zoet” (that tea is very sweet).

Dreamlynn is two of the worst trends combined :)

  6. Knourish made me cringe.
Olalla (oh-LA-la), from a word for “berries” in Chinook Jargon, is the name of a small community in my area of western Washington (and another in British Columbia), so I wonder if any of the babies are from this area. I see it’s also the name of a creepy short story by Robert Louis Stevenson, and a creepier movie from 2015. The Catalan name makes the most sense for the small trend.

  7. Thank you for all these thoughts/ideas, everyone!

I’m very intrigued by Fairlight this year. I have no idea what the explanation is, but (while trying to figure it out) I discovered that there was a female character named Fairlight on television in the mid-’90s, which I never knew.

And thank you, Andrea, for that extra info on Tuuli!
