The mountainous microstate of Andorra is located in the Pyrenees, sandwiched between France and Spain.

Andorra has a population of fewer than 100,000 people — making it more populous than Monaco and Liechtenstein, but less populous than Malta.

The country’s official language is Catalan, but other languages (like French and Spanish) are also spoken.

Though I haven’t been able to find up-to-date baby name rankings for Andorra, I did recently come across four sets of rankings that were slightly older. So here are Andorra’s most popular baby names of 2015, 2013, 2012, and 2011:

In 2015, a total of 602 babies (304 girls and 298 boys) were born in Andorra.

Some thoughts on a few of the above…

  • Künkyi and Tenzin are Tibetan.
  • Nevia and Nevio are Italian. They derive from the Roman family name Naevius, which was based on the Latin word naevus, meaning “birthmark” or “mole (on the body).”
  • Rron is an Albanian. It was created from the word rronj, a dialectal form of rroj, which means “to live, to survive.”

Where did the name Draven come from?

The dark movie The Crow, which was released in May of 1994.

The film was set in “some decaying urban hell […] where armed gangs prowl the alleyways and common people are driven inside to merely survive.”

The main character was resurrected rock star Eric Draven. He and his fiancée had been murdered by gang members the night before their wedding. Exactly one year later, Eric rose from the dead to avenge their deaths.

The Crow starred actor Brandon Lee, son of martial arts superstar Bruce Lee. Sadly, Brandon was fatally wounded by a prop gun during filming. He died in March of 1993. The same year, usage of the compound name Brandonlee more than tripled:

  • 1993: 20 baby boys named Brandonlee
