(Because L‘s with a stroke don’t render properly on my site, you’ll have to imagine they exist in several of the above: the girl name Lucja and the boy names Mikolaj, Stanislaw, Michal, Milosz, and Pawel.)
Poland’s data goes all the way down to names with just two instances of usage, so here’s a sampling of the rare baby names at the opposite end of the spectrum:
On November 30, the government of Slovakia — thumbing its nose at the entire month of December — went ahead and released the official list of the country’s top baby names of 2022.

The last time I posted rankings for Slovakia, in 2018, the top two names were also Sofia and Jakub.

Unfortunately, I had to de-stroke all the L‘s with a stroke in this post (like the one in Mikolaj, and the one in Stanislaw) because they don’t render properly on my site.
It’s particularly unfortunate considering that, for this post, I thought it would be fun to find and define all the “-slaw” names on the the boys’ side of the rankings (which go all the way down to names with just two instances of usage).
So just imagine that the L‘s in the 18 “-slaw” elements below have strokes through them. (Also, pronounce them like W‘s — and the W‘s like V‘s — so that “-slaw” sounds like the English word suave.)
Stanislaw (ranked 10th): “to become” + “glory”
Przemyslaw (83rd): the name Przemysl (“trick, stratagem”) + “glory”
Radoslaw (92nd): “happy” + “glory”
Wladyslaw (108th): “power” + “glory”
Boleslaw: “greater” + “glory”
Boguslaw: “god” + “glory”
Czeslaw: “honor” + “glory”
Miroslaw: “peace” + “glory”
Mieczyslaw: “sword” + “glory”
Bronislaw: “protection” + “glory”
Jaroslaw: “fierce” + “glory”
Zdzislaw: “build” + “glory”
Leslaw: short for Lechoslaw, the name Lech (the legendary founder of Poland) + “glory”
Miloslaw: “gracious” + “glory”
Gniewoslaw (2 baby boys): “anger” + “glory”
Gromoslaw (2): “thunder” + “glory”
Witoslaw (2): “lord, master” + “glory”
Zdobyslaw (2): “to obtain,” “to win” + “glory”
Back in 2016, the top names in Poland were also Zuzanna and Antoni.
Below are hundreds of baby names with a numerological value of 9.
What do I mean by that?
Well, in numerology, you substitute each letter in a word with that letter’s ordinal value in the alphabet. (The letter B has a value of 2, for instance, because it’s the second letter.) Then you add those ordinal values together to come up with a total. Lastly, you add the digits of that total together to obtain a numerological value.
Here’s an example: The letters in the name Jake have the values 10, 1, 11, and 5. Added together, these values equal 27. And the digits of 27 added together equal 9.
All of the “9” names below are sub-categorized by totals — just in case any of those larger numbers are significant to anyone. Within each group you’ll find some of the most popular “9” names per gender (according to the most recent set of U.S. baby name rankings).
9
The letters in the unisex baby name Ace add up to 9.
9 via 18
The letters in the following baby names add up to 18, which reduces to nine (1+8=9).
Girl names (9 via 18)
Boy names (9 via 18)
Lea, Gaia, Ela, Acacia, Addi
Can, Adal, Acie, Edi, Jag
9 via 27
The letters in the following baby names add up to 27, which reduces to nine (2+7=9).
What does the number nine mean in numerology? Unfortunately, there’s no clear answer. Various numerological systems exist, and each one has its own interpretation of the number nine.
That said, if we look at a couple of modern numerology/astrology websites, we see 9 being described as “humanitarian,” “tolerant,” “helpful,” “determined,” and “compassionate.”
Personally, I prefer to look at associations, which are a bit more concrete. Here are some things that are associated with the number 9:
Pregnancy (9 month long)
“Cloud nine”
“Nine lives” (of a cat)
“To the nines”
“The whole nine yards”
Baseball (9 players on the field; 9 innings)
K-9 (“canine”) police dog units
What does the number 9 mean to you? What are your strongest associations with the number?
(To see names with other numerological values, check out the posts for the numbers one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and eight.)
