Remember the Karate Kid movies?
The second one, The Karate Kid, Part II (1986), featured the song “Glory of Love” by former Chicago vocalist Peter Cetera.
Thanks in large part to the movie, the song became a #1 hit that year. It ended up being nominated for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a Grammy Award.
Cetera’s other #1 hit in 1986 was his duet with Amy Grant, “The Next Time I Fall.”
In 1987, the baby name Cetera appeared on the SSA’s list for the very first time:
- 1990: not listed
- 1989: 5 baby girls named Cetera
- 1988: 6 baby girls named Cetera
- 1987: 22 baby girls named Cetera [debut]
- 1986: not listed
Coincidence?
I think not, Mr. Miyagi.
Cetera makes me think of Catera. As in the Cadillac Catera, which was in production from 1997 to 2001.
1995 – not listed
1996 – 11
1997 – 83
1998 – 113
1999 – 55
2000- 37
2001- 31
Eventually falling off the list completely in 2008.
Thank you for the #s, Julie!
I don’t have to blog about Catera now because you’ve done all the hard work for me. :)
Not a problem, I love these stories of unique name sources!
Here’s the graph for Catera, in case anyone would like to see.
