Baby name story: Pixie

In May of 2015, a baby girl in England was delivered via emergency C-section at 28 weeks — 10 weeks ahead of her due date — because she wasn’t growing properly in utero.

She weighed just 1.1 lbs. and “was so tiny doctors wrapped her in a Tesco sandwich bag to keep her warm.”

Her parents, Sharon Grant and Edward Griffiths, decided to name her Pixie “because of her tiny size.”

During the three months she was kept in a hospital incubator, Pixie “suffered a stomach infection, urine infection and had 10 blood transfusions.”

Finally, at the age of five months — and weighing a healthy 7.5 lbs. — she was allowed to go home.
