Ekaterini Pachis of Greece was traveling to Australia aboard the SS Australis in mid-1967 when she gave birth to a baby girl.
Her daughter was named Australis Pachis, after the ship.
Right after Australis was born, she was gifted with “500 Australian dollars ($560 U.S.), raised by a collection aboard ship.”

Interesting. Australis isn’t that horrid, but it sounds more masculine.
Australis is a cosmetics company in Australia, I find it odd as a given name.
