I just learned that singer Tori Amos’s only child, 10-year-old Natashya (nicknamed “Tash”), has the middle name Lórien.
Her middle name was inspired by Lothlórien, a fictional Elvish realm in J. R. R. Tolkien’s novel The Lord of the Rings. In the Elvish language of Sindarin, the place name means “blossom of Lórien.” (Lórien itself is thought to mean “golden lands.”)
I’ve seen plenty of Tolkien character names used as baby names, but I think this is the first time I’ve seen a Tolkien place name used that way.

This is an old post, but I just saw it for the first time. I know two people named Lorien from “The Lord of the Rings.” My sister named her youngest child Lorien Kellis in 1978. She (my sister) originally wrote the name with the accent, Lórien, but soon gave that up. Then, some close friends named a daughter Lorien Ruth in 1993. They were also Tolkien fans who had named their older child Sarah Arwen. In fact, the father wanted to reverse the name order to Ruth Lorien so it would sound more like “Lothlórien,” but he did not win out.
