Oliver and Olivia still reign supreme in England and Wales. Here are the most popular baby names of 2010:
Boy Names | Girl Names |
---|---|
1. Oliver 2. Jack 3. Harry 4. Alfie 5. Charlie 6. Thomas 7. William 8. Joshua 9. George 10. James | 1. Olivia 2. Sophie 3. Emily 4. Lily 5. Amelia 6. Jessica 7. Ruby 8. Chloe 9. Grace 10. Evie |
George is new to the boys’ top 10. The drop-out was Daniel.
No newbies on the girls’ side.
Ollie, Bobby, Caleb, Jenson, Dexter and Kayden replaced Ellis, Joe, Christopher, Ewan, Morgan and Austin in the boys’ top 100.
Annabelle, Eliza, Laila, Aisha, Maryam and Maisy replaced Lydia, Eve, Alisha, Francesca, Sara and Mya in the girls’ top 100.

I wonder if the Georg- names for the girls are on the rise too. Georgia, Georgina, Georgette.
Good question. When I have some time I’ll go back and check it out.
Actually I have time right now. :)
Here’s how the four most popular Georg- names for girls in England/Wales have fared over the last few years:
Georgia
2010 – 1,063 babies; ranked 56th
2009 – 1,097 babies; ranked 55th
2008 – 1,169 babies; ranked 53rd
2007 – 1,313 babies; ranked 42nd
2006 – 1,559 babies; ranked 37th
Georgina
2010 – 333 babies; ranked 158th
2009 – 377 babies; ranked 145th
2008 – 351 babies; ranked 154th
2007 – 443 babies; ranked 126th
2006 – 495 babies; ranked 106th
Georgie
2010 – 149 babies; ranked 317th
2009 – 117 babies; ranked 369th
2008 – 98 babies; ranked 433rd
2007 – 120 babies; ranked 363rd
2006 – 113 babies; ranked 368th
Georgiana
2010 – 32 babies
2009 – 35 babies; ranked 932nd (only top-1,000 showing)
2008 – 22 babies
2007 – 25 babies
2006 – 19 babies
The top two, Georgia and Georgina, are clearly losing steam. Georgiana, on the other hand, is making gains. (Though they’re so small they don’t matter much.) Georgie is harder to pin down — 149 babies in 2010 might be the start of an upswing, or might be a fluke.
