In late 1938, Mrs. Dalziel of the Scottish island of Stronsay (part of the archipelago of Orkney) went into labor.
To give birth, she was flown to a hospital in Orkney’s largest town, Kirkwall, which is located on a different island.
Two weeks later, she and her baby were flown home by the same airplane pilot — Capt. John Annesley Hankins.
In honor of that pilot, she named her baby Doreen Annesley.
