What were the most popular lengths for baby names in 2012?
For both girls and boys, the 6-letter-long name was the clear winner.
- The 3 most popular lengths for girl names were 6 letters, 7 letters, and 5 letters.
- The 3 least popular lengths for girl names were 12 letters, 14 letters, and 15 letters. (No 15-letter names made the list, actually).
- The 3 most popular lengths for boy names were 6 letters, 5 letters, and 7 letters.
- The 3 least popular lengths for boy names were 13 letters, 14 letters, and 15 letters.
- That slight rise at 11 is due to the popularity of a single name: the 11-letter Christopher, 23rd most popular baby name in the U.S. right now.
Not surprisingly, the winning lengths overall were 6 letters, 5 letters, and 7 letters. The losers were 13 letters, 13 letters and 15 letters.
