In Luxembourg, “[r]egistrars have the right to refuse names they deem ridiculous, discriminating, against the welfare of the child or infringing on the rights of third parties.” One of the rejected baby names of 2014 was Fanta; one of the newly approved names was Mewa.
Luxembourg’s first baby of 2014, born in January 1, was a girl named Sailey.

Have the top 2014 names from Italy, Portugal and Spain come out yet?
The list for Spain isn’t out yet — here’s the official page for names in Spain, and the most recent data there is the 2013 data.
I’ve never posted lists for Italy and Portugal before, so I’ll have to do some checking around on those two.
Looks like Portugal’s names don’t come out until mid-year (somewhere on the IRN site) but until then here’s an article with some provisional data: Maria e João no “top” dos nomes mais usados em 2014.
I’m not sure when Italy’s names come out, but when they do they’ll be here: Nomi – Istat.

I had assumed it was a mid-year thing because I couln’t find the names at the IRN site, and because Nomes e mais nomes published a copy of the 2013 rankings on “6.1.14,” which…now that I’m thinking about it, must mean January 6th, not June 1st. Duh. :)
