Where did it come from?
Professional baseball player Dansby Swanson, who was the first overall pick in the Major League Baseball draft in 2015. He has played for the Atlanta Braves ever since.
He was born in Kennesaw, Georgia, and his full name at birth was James Dansby Swanson. (His middle name is his mother’s maiden name.)
“Dansby” could be a variant of the English surname Danby, which was originally a place name that (like Denby) meant “settlement of the Danes.”

I like Dansby, it’s a nice alternative to Daniel. Different without being odd.
Then again I’m a baseball fan so it’s a name I’ve heard often so that it might seem more “ordinary” to me than someone who doesn’t follow baseball. I think if you hear a name regularly it starts to be just another name.
Totally agree — the more familiar you are with something, like a name, the more normalized it becomes.
