A reader named Andria would like a middle name for Lucinda. The baby’s last name will be a T-name similar to Kendall.
I tried to come up with suggestions that (like Lucinda) are old-fashioned and/or Latin-based. Also, because Lucinda and the surname share several consonants, I aimed for names that add some new sounds to the mix. Here’s the result:
Beatrix Belle Catharine Cathleen Claire Corinne Eleanor Elodie Flavia Flora Frances Georgia | Grace Hannah Helen Honor Isabel Isla Jean Judith Julia Junia Marian May | Miriam Nicole Pauline Pearl Phoebe Rose Ruth Simone Sophie Susan Vera Viola |
My preliminary list included a bunch of long names. I cut most of them…but the ones below I liked too much not to mention:
- Cordelia
- Elizabeth
- Eugenia
- Josephine
- Priscilla
- Sophronia
- Valentina
Which of the above do you like best with Lucinda? What other names would you suggest?
Hmmm … Lucinda is one of those name I just love, but I’m not sure about any of these together. I think Lucinda Ruth has some style, but the double “oo” doesn’t thrill me. There’s Lucinda Rose, but Rose seems like such a common filler middle name. I’d only use it if there were more meaning behind the choice.
That made me think of Lucinda Sloane. Not sure if you’re into surnames/gender neutral choices, but I’ve always been found of Sloane, especially in the middle spot.
Lucinda Claire has some appeal, too. And Lucinda Isabel/Isobel is long, but pretty.
BTW, I love Catharine – that’s my favorite spelling.
I love a one-syllable middle name for this first/last combination. Lucinda May Kendall and Lucinda Anne Kendall are my favorites, but other options are:
Gail
Grace
Hope
Jade
Maeve
Out of the longer names I like Lucinda Elizabeth or Lucinda Josephine. I would stay away from another name that ends in a. I like the one-syllable names, too and would second Lucinda May adding the suggestions Lucinda Jane and Lucinda Joy.
Beatrix, Claire, Eleanor, Miriam, Pearl, and Josephine are my favorites. If I had to choose one or two, definitely Beatrix and Josephine. I would have said Priscilla, what with it being on my favorite’s list, but the -a ending that matches Lucinda doesn’t flow well.
I am naming my daughter Lucinda Bella.
I like Lucinda Rae! I know it wasnt on the list but I thought I would through out the name anyways.
