Here’s an e-mail I got from a reader named Sara:
I’m expecting baby #2 in spring. Our daughter’s name is Adele. We’re not finding out the gender, so would like options for boys and girls names that go well with Adele. For girls, I’m liking Elise, Caroline, Winifred and Celia as examples. For boys, Foster, Joseph and Thomas come to mind. Welcome all suggestions! Thanks!
Winifred! I was excited to see that one.
Here are some other possibilities:
Boy names
Frederick Henry Hugh | Julian Louis Mark | Martin Nathan Oliver | Philip Robert Peter | Simon Walter William |
Girl names
Beatrice Camille Claire | Corinne Eugenie Gillian | Iris Johanna Louise | Lucia Marion Naomi | Nicole Rose Thea |
Which of the above do you like best with Adele? What other names would you suggest to Sara?
You cannot use Philip with Adele, sounds like you’re trying to sound out Philadelphia. Unless you are looking for that……then the next kid should be Phia.
I like Elise, Caroline, Claire and Naomi; Thomas, Henry and Oliver;
Good luck
I didn’t even notice that Adele & Philip were similar to Philadelphia, though you’re right, they are. Interesting. I wonder how many other people would also make that connection.
I would suggest Elias and Irene.
For boys I don’t have any new suggestions but I’m going to vote for Frederick and Walter! I think they go wonderfully with Adele and their not overused, but their familiar.
“Adele and Frederick” or “Adele and Walter”.
For a girls I really like Beatrice, Eugenie, and Louise, but I would also add Eliza (similar to the Elise you like) and Isla.
“Adele and Eliza” (My Fav!) or “Adele and Isla”
I love Adele! If popularity isn’t an issue for you, I think Adele and Sophie sound very nice together.
Some ideas:

There is a whole series of books about “Adele and Simon” http://www.amazon.com/Ad%C3%83%C2%A8-Simon-Barbara-McClintock/dp/0374380449
We received them when our first baby was born, because he is a Simon. Pregnant with #2 now, but low and behold it is another boy, so no luck. But hey, you could always consider Simon if you are having a little boy. I think she was an older sister in the books anyway. I’m also partial to the name Simon.
Adele is gorgeous! I’m partial to Walter and Frederick. They fit together perfectly with Adele, and are great names independently. I think that a name not beginning with a vowel would make for a stronger sibset. Some more ideas:
Lucasta
Lucinda
Genevieve
Miriam
Theodora
Vivienne
Cordelia
Seymour
Sebastian
Jeremy
York
Francis
Gareth
Kenneth
These are all great suggestions! Thanks everyone and keep them coming! Our last name has a strong k in it so don’t think Frederick will work. Even though I agree it’s great. I hadn’t thought of Walter, but like it.
Thanks again!
I love Thomas.
I love the sound of Adele and Iris together! It sounds like a mother who has exceptional taste in names. If Iris is too harsh I would consider Isla though it doesn’t quite compare to Iris. For the male name I loved the suggestion of Oliver. What a beautiful combo that would be, Adele and Oliver.
If you’re a fan of alliterations like myself then consider these:
boys
Arthur – ‘Art’ is such a cute nickname
August
girls
Amelia
Audrey
I lovvveeee Adele and Oliver or Adele and Claire/Rose, I think they sound so cute together.
Wow, good names, but then our tastes trend similar. Caroline and Celia are great. Brendan, Nathaniel, and Theodore would all sound good with Adele.
My name is Adele. I have two brothers(younger) and their names are Simon and Patrick. I think those names go well together. Other boy name would be joseph. A girl name would be either Mary/marie and Claire. Love those names together
