Popular baby names in Panama, 2020

According to Panama’s Dirección Nacional de Registro Civil (part of the Tribunal Electoral), the most popular baby names in the Central American country two years ago were Mía and Thiago.

Here are Panama’s top 10 girl names and top 10 boy names of 2020:

Girl Names

Boy Names

1. Thiago, 511 baby boys

6. Luis, 349
7. Juan, 314
8. Eithan, 298
9. Carlos, 295
10. Liam, 276

A little further down on the girls’ list, in 12th place, is Alexa — which is interesting. I don’t know how high Alexa has ranked in Panama historically (I’ve never posted rankings for Panama before) but, in the U.S., the usage of Alexa has been plummeting since the mid-2010s.

According to the Tribunal Electoral’s Instagram page, the top names of 2021 were…

• Girls: Mía, Emma, Lía, Ana, María
• Boys: Thiago, José, Ian, Liam, Luis

I’m not 100% sure about the ordering, though.
