The name that stood out to Filipa of the Portuguese baby name blog Nomes e mais Nomes was Aurora, “which entered the top 10 strongly, occupying 7th position, even surpassing Camila, which was the craze of recent years!” Here’s her actual sentence (apologies for my clunky translation):

Mas, este ano, o destaque tem de ir inteiramente para Aurora, que entrou em força no top 10, ocupando a 7.ª posição, chegando a ultrapassar Camila, que era a coqueluche dos últimos anos!

Last year, Portugal welcomed more than 95,000 babies. The most popular names among these babies? Maria and Francisco.

The news release noted that Camila was new to the girls’ top 10, and that the names at the bottom of the girls’ top 100 were Áurea, Kiara, Vera, and Raquel.

It also mentioned that Manuel, José, and António ranked 20th, 21st and 28th (respectively) on the boys’ list.

The last time I posted rankings for Portugal, in 2015, the top two names were Maria and João.

Popular baby names in Liechtenstein, 2020

The tiny country of Liechtenstein — located in the Alps, between Austria and Switzerland — welcomed 188 baby girls and 165 baby boys in 2020.

According to Liechtenstein’s Office for Statistics (Amt für Statistik), the most popular baby names in the German-speaking microstate were Sofia and Maximilian/Oscar (tie).
