Another baby born on Continental flight, named Connie

Continental plane

This is the second airplane baby named Connie that I know of, believe it or not. She was born 40 years after the first.

The morning of May 19, 1996, Nguyet Pham gave birth to a baby girl in the bathroom of Continental Airlines flight 1435, traveling from Chicago to Cleveland.

The baby was named Nancy Connie — Connie after Continental.

Celebrity baby name: Endellion

Prime Minister David Cameron (in 2016)

British Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife, Samantha, welcomed a baby girl on Tuesday (Aug. 24). Their fourth child was born a month early while the Camerons were on vacation in Cornwall.

Regarding the baby’s name, Cameron was quoted as saying, “It was very exciting having a baby in Cornwall. We’ll have to have something Cornish in there somewhere.”

And indeed they did get something Cornish in there. The baby was named Florence Rose Endellion. Endellion is in honor of St Endellion, a village in north Cornwall. The village name is based on the name of a 6th century Cornish saint, St. Endelienta.

The Camerons’ older children are named Ivan, Arthur and Nancy. (Ivan passed away in 2009 at age 6.)

What’s it like to be named Baxter?

In a recent essay in LA Times Magazine, sportswriter Baxter Holmes explained what it’s like to be a Baxter:

Names are identifiers, but since they shadow our lives, we never give them much thought, just like we never think about how we walk or what we sound like breathing. I grew up in a small town in rural Oklahoma, where everyone knew everyone. Baxter was just what I was–nothing special.

So when asked to describe the essence of “Baxter,” I thought, When someone shouts it in a crowd, it’s my attention they’re trying for.

How did Baxter’s mother come up with his name?

When waddling around with me in her belly, she saw “Baxter” autographed on the cast of a friend of a friend’s broken arm. It was just what she was looking for, something distinct and distinguished. “I knew the minute I said it in my mind,” she says. “I loved the way it sounded.”
